CBD 101 – Hemp Extract Essentials

CBD, or Cannabidiol as it is also known, is the second most common chemical compound found in the Industrial Hemp plant. Overall, there are more than 85 other unique compounds found in this amazing medicinal plant. The two most prominent of these compounds are CBD and THC (the latter is responsible for the psycho-active effects of cannabis) and are called cannabinoids or, more specifically, Phytocannabinoids.

CBD and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), both derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant species.

Phytocannabinoids – Botanical Wonders

These Phytocannabinoids are hugely important in botanical medicine – naturally occurring medicines derived from plants, including cannabis plants.  This type of complimentary medicine is becoming increasingly mainstream as people seek more natural solutions to health and wellbeing. And, increasingly, as more becomes known about the beneficial effects of these complex compounds.

Phytocannabinoids occur naturally in the cannabis plant and there are more than 85 that have been recognised to date. Some would put that figure at over 100, such is the pace of discovery and development.

Cannabis Strains

There are multiple strains of this plant, one of the most common strains being Industrial Hemp, the other Marijuana. Though different plants, they come from the same family. Industrial Hemp naturally produces higher levels of Cannabidiols (CBD) and lower levels of the psycho-active Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which provides the cannabis ‘high’. The primary source of most CBD on the market today is from the agricultural hemp plant that has been legalized for cultivation in the USA and the EU.

Meanwhile, Marijuana plants – perhaps best known for their recreational appeal, – are judged to be illegal in some states and countries because they produce high levels of THC and lower levels of CBD.

CBD – The Benefits of CBD

CBD is non-psycho-active which means that it will not give the user a high of the recreational type – though it may well improve their wellbeing to produce another kind of high. Because of this trait, and because of it many beneficial properties, CBD appears more frequently than THC in dietary and natural supplements as well as in skin and hair preparations.  It is this CBD which forms the Dr Buddi CBD products which are named synonymously as hemp extract.
